Protect your home and prevent pests from entering your place by doing some of these tips.
Eliminate stagnant water inside and outside your home.
Whether outside or within your home, standing water attracts pests like cockroaches, flies, and mosquitoes. The presence of stagnant water makes your home an attractive place to become a breeding ground for pests. That’s why you need you to keep your home clean and dry.
Outside, check your lawn and yard for stagnant water and address the issue as quickly as possible. Repair any roof or plumbing leaks as soon as possible, too. Clear your gutters of leaves and other debris so water will not accumulate in that area.
Inside, areas with the most moisture are in kitchens and in bathrooms. Check the water pipes and make immediate repairs if there are leaks. Make sure you regularly wipe off your kitchen counter and remove drip water from your dish rack. Regularly clean your bathroom, particularly the shower curtain, tub, sink, and toilet.
Seal every entry point of your home.
Pests are small and can squeeze their way into your home through tiny gaps and cracks. Seal every little gap around plumbing pipes, under window frames and doorways to prevent them from entering your dwelling place. Install window screens—or repair them if you already have it—so you can keep your window open and let the spring breeze in. Replace old weatherstripping of windows so there will be no tiny gaps for insects to crawl into.
Keep food in sealed containers.
This means all kinds of food, whether it is for you or for your pets. Always make sure any food stored inside your home is sealed and in airtight containers so pests will not be attracted to go into your home.
Clean up regularly.
All critters like to live in cluttered places, so to stop them from nesting in your home, unclutter your home.
Outside your home, make sure yard debris, such as leaves and branches, are disposed of properly. Inside, tidy up every nook and cranny of your home and throw out items that just pile up and are not being used anymore.
Have your house treated.
One of the best defense against pests is to spray insecticide to your house’s surroundings. Also, use pesticides in entry points like doors and windows.
Seek professional help.
